The city of Glasgow has a huge variety of food options from a range of different cultures. In this blog I am going to focus on food spots around the city centre that have a great atmosphere, are enjoyable, affordable, and also are perfect for students or those on a budget.
Sugo - 70 Mitchell Street
Sugo is an extremely popular pasta restaurant located in the heart of Glasgow (a 3 minute walk from Central Station to be exact). The restaurant itself has a huge seating area which means there is never a huge waiting time for a table (which is always a bonus)!
The prices for pasta dishes start at £7.50 and the most expensive dish is only £12.50! With 10 dishes on the standard menu and usually around 3-4 on the specials menu (that changes every month), there really is something for everyone. As a huge carbonara lover myself, this has got to be my favourite dish to order when visiting Sugo and might be the best one I have tried in Glasgow so far! There are vegan and lots of vegetarian dishes available as well as many options for sides such as bread that is made fresh every day, to plates of salami and prosciutto ham.
The dessert menu is full of authentic Italian dishes including homemade tiramisu (my favourite), an array of cannolis including chocolate, pistachio and ricotta, standard ice cream, and affogato which is a shot of espresso over soft serve ice cream.
I would definitely recommend Sugo to anyone in Glasgow who loves Italian food or would like to try different pasta dishes, sides, and even desserts they have never tried before.
